Term 2

We have had a fantastic start to Term 2, full of enthusiasm for learning and smiling faces!

Writing

We have started the term with a writing to entertain focus. We have been studying a fiction text titled 'Voices in the Park' by Anthony Browne. We have loved sharing this text as we are familiar with this author and we have been inquisitive to explore further texts. We have been considering how we are going to create a fifth voice from our own perspective. We have moved onto our non-fiction writing, focusing on non-chronological reports. We have chosen an animal of our choice to focus our writing and we are taking careful consideration about producing a glossary with key vocabulary linked to our area of interest.

Geography

This term has been all about learning essential skills and knowledge to locate countries and cities, and use grid references, compass points and latitude and longitude. We have learned about the layers of the Earth and plate tectonics and discover the five major climate zones. We have explored significant places in the United Kingdom and will carry out fieldwork to discover how land is used in the locality.

Art

Bell Beaker Pots! Starting our new project in Art has been great fun already, we have unpicked the history of Bell Beaker pottery and the history behind this, and how these have been created over time. We examined many examples of the pottery and their uses, choosing our favourite to study and sketch.

Following on from our study of Bell Beaker pots we have created our own using the clay skills and patters we have learned from this age.

History

After learning about the Bell Beaker folk which linked nicely with our Art project, we began to think about the Bronze Age era. We used our knowledge of the Stone Age to compare similarities and differences of these periods.

During the term we have continued to move through the ages and identify how each age came to an end and how a new one started. We have identified similarities and differences of each age and what everyday life looks like in this period. We have been able to understand how the ages have taught us things in our daily life today.
