Music

At Gipsey Bridge Academy, we teach music so that all pupils perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.

Class 1 have been learning all about percussion instruments used in Samba music. The children had a fantastic time playing their instruments in time to the music and experimenting with creating different sounds.

Class 1 have also been listening to different types of music, some fast, some slow and thinking about how the different types of music made us feel. They then spent time experimenting with drawing how it made us feel.

Class 1 have been learning all about Body Percussion! The children were thrilled to watch the body percussion performance from the group 'Stomp' . They then worked in groups to create their own body percussion performances, they really were great!

Debbie from Lincs Music Service visited Class 2 to demonstrate her string instruments. We listened to her playing the cello, viola and violin and had a chance to use our newly-learnt musical terminology to ask questions and make comparisons between the sounds the instruments made. We had a wonderful morning and enjoyed listening to some fantastic live music; it was the first time some of the children had heard these instruments in ‘real life’.

We used our homework to compare our favourite songs. Then, having given our reasons to our group, we voted on one song to represent us. We then listened to these songs as a whole class and described them using the musical vocabulary on our knowledge organisers e.g. instrument families we could hear and how the music made us feel. There was an amazing range of music, covering rock, pop (including ballads) and country music!
Impressive listening on display in Class 2 as the children listened to compared different genres of music, making sure they used the correct vocabulary too.
