Dangerous Dinosaurs! - Spring Term 1

Dangerous Dinosaurs!

During this project we will be finding out about prehistoric animals that lived on Earth, learning facts about dinosaurs and discovering how big some of the dinosaurs were! We will also be learning about the differences between carnivores and herbivores.

All of our learning will help us to answer our big question for this term:

Do dinosaurs still exist?

Ideas of how to support your child at home during this project:

*Explore the National History Museum website & learn interesting facts about dinosaurs together.

*Visit the Cbeebies website & explore the games and videos together!

*Research dinosaur facts together to share with us at school.

*Share & discuss the useful documents below:

Week 5

To conclude our dinosaurs topic this week we have designed and created our very own dinosaurs! The children decided whether their dinosaur was a carnivore or herbivore and from there used everything we have learnt in our project to decide on its features. We have also been writing facts about our dinosaurs too!

Week 4

This week we have been looking at dinosaurs features and thinking about why they might have them & what they might have used them for. We then used this information to create our own dinosaurs! We worked in teams to decide on what features our dinosaurs would need according to whether they are carnivores or herbivores.

We have also been looking at cave paintings of other prehistoric animals including woolly mammoths and sabre toothed cats. Using chalk we have created our own cave paintings!

Week 3

We have had an arty week this week!

We have looked and discussed different textures to try and imagine what the dinosaurs skin might have felt like.  We then had a go at creating some bumpy textures with a special machine and painted our dinosaurs in the colours we thought they might have been.

We have also been looking an ammonites this week, and painting our own, using wax crayons and water paints.

Week 2

We had a very exciting package arrive this week! We thought it could either be fossils, dinosaur eggs or dinosaur bones. When we opened it we found some dinosaur eggs, along with a letter from Professor Scout who asked us to investigate which dinosaur had laid them. We spent the afternoon investigating, measuring and researching which dinosaur it could have been and in the end came to the decision that a T-Rex had laid them!

Week 1

In order to launch our new project we hopped into a time machine to travel back millions of years to our very own Prehistoric safari! We spotted different dinosaurs as well as having a go at digging up and exploring fossils before returning back in our time machine in time for home time!
