On the beach!
In the On the Beach project, children will be learning about animals that live in rock pools and on the seashore. They will explore days out at the beach and compare their experiences with beach holidays in the past. We will also learn about the animals that live in the sea and find out about worldwide seas and oceans. They will explore the importance of looking after the environment to keep living things safe. They will learn about staying safe at the beach and find out about people who help us.
All of our learning and exciting activities this term will help us to answer our big question: 'Who lives at the seaside?'
Ideas of how to support your child at home during this project:
*Have a day out at a local seaside & explore a rock pool!
*Look at family photos of days out at the beach & talk about what you enjoyed doing.
*Use Google Earth to research and look at seas and oceans.
*Share & discuss the useful documents:
Week 3
For our topic learning this week we have been having a closer look at fish! Including identifying their special features that help them survive in the water, as well as drawing our own! We have also looked at the artwork 'Les Betes de la Mer' (The beasts of the sea!) by Henri Matisse and had a go at creating our own versions!
Week 2
This week we have been investigating who lives in a rock pool! We have learnt about different plants and animals that live in rock pools, and then designed our own! We have also been taking a closer look at shells and have learnt that some sea creatures have them to protect their bodies.
Week 1
To launch our new 'On the beach' topic we have created our very own beach in our outdoor role play area! We have enjoyed exploring it this week, making sandcastles, dressing up and using our role play ice cream shop!
We have also shared our own photos of trips to the beach and compared them to photos from people in the past to identify the similarities and differences!
