Ready, Steady, Grow! - Spring Term 2

Ready, Steady, Grow!

During this project children will be taking part in practical activities to explore where food comes from. They were learn what seeds and plants need to grow & will have the opportunity to grow a variety of plants in school! Children will also be learning about healthy lifestyles, including healthy eating, exercising & personal hygiene such as teeth brushing!

All of these exciting activities will help us to answer our big question: 'Where does our food come from?'

Ideas of how to support your child at home during this project:

*Visit the local library to find books about farms & growing.

*Make a shopping list together and go to the shops to buy the food together.

*Talk about where our foods come from.

*Grow some quick growing plants at home & encourage them to take care of their plant themselves.

*Talk about healthy foods.

*Share & discuss the useful documents below:

Week 4

This week we have been discussing baby animals and their names, as well as matching them to their parents & thinking about similarities and differences.

We also had a very exciting visit from Mr Richardson with his New Holland tractor! We were given the chance to sit inside & even beep the horn! We had a great time and enjoyed listening to some tractor facts too.

Week 3

This week we have really enjoyed the story 'The Little Red Hen'! After reading the story we had a look at the process of making wheat into flour. We then had a go at making our very own bread rolls, just like the Little Red Hen did!

Week 2

We have had our green fingers out this week and very much got stuck into our growing topic! As we have been reading Jack & the beanstalk this week, we have set up a bean experiment with 4 sets of conditions involving water, light and compost. Over the next few weeks we will be keeping a close eye on all 4 of our seeds to see which one grows the best! We have also been out in our garden area planting sunflower seeds, as well as strawberry and tomato seeds as well.

Week 1

To start off our new topic: 'Ready, steady, grow!' we have been thinking about whether different foods are made from or come from animals or if they grow on plants or crops in the fields. We have enjoyed our discussions and have learnt lots! We have also been singing farm related songs and learnt a new song called: Oats and beans and barley grow!
