Our Weekly Learning
The Cornerstones project which will begin this new academic term will be Magnificent Monarchs. This is a History driven project which will teach us about the English and British monarchy from AD 871 to the present day. We will be using timelines, information about royal palaces, portraits and other historical sources, we will build up an understanding of the monarchs and then research six of the most significant sovereigns.
All of these wonderful learning experiences will help us to answer this project's Big Question:
Curriculum Overview
In addition to our main History project, we will be carrying out a range of companion projects throughout the Summer term.
Our Science project will be Animal Survival.
Within this project, we will learn about growth in animals by exploring the life cycles of some familiar animals. We will build on learning about the survival of humans by identifying the basic needs of animals for survival, including food, water, air and shelter.
In Art and Design, we will the project Portraits and Poses. Throughout this project, we will learn about portraiture. We will analyse the portraits of Tudor monarchs and compare Tudor portraits and selfies today. We will also use photo editing software to create royal portraits.
In Design and Technology, we will be exploring two projects.
Firstly, our project will be Cut, Stitch and Join. This project will teach us about fabric home products and the significant British brand Cath Kidston. We will learn about sewing patterns and using a running stitch and embellishments before making a sewn bag tag.
Our second project will be Push and Pull. During this project, we will learn about three types of mechanism: sliders, levers and linkages. We will make models of each mechanism before designing and making a greetings card with a moving part.
For our Religious Education, we will be firstly exploring the Sikh celebration of Anand Karaj. Then we will be focusing on the Islamic celebration of Jumu'ah. Below are the glossaries containing the key vocabulary that we will be introduced to within these projects.
