Reception

Reception launched their new topic Marvellous Machines. We started by talking about the different machines we have in our homes, at school and in our community. We talked about how machines work and ways that we can stay safe when using them. We then used two machines: a toaster and a blender to create our own smoothies and pumpkin toast for a special Halloween party.

A treasure hunt in Reception! The children found all of the gems at each location on their treasure map quickly to open the treasure chest. We then decorated pumpkins and cakes and made pasta necklaces. Thank you to all our parents/carers for joining us for our very first WOW event today.

This week we have been exploring our local community. The children started by taking a walk around Gipsey Bridge and hunting for a range of features in the environment. The children loved using their binoculars and toy phones or cameras to hunt for and take photos of the places that we had been.

A first ever memorable experience for Reception as they went on a grown-up hunt! We planned our route carefully and walked around the whole school exploring areas and introducing ourselves to members of staff. We were most excited to go upstairs, where we found Mr Clarke, who gave us all Head teachers stickers for our first day at school. As we explored, we learnt all about the jobs that different grown-ups do at school.

A brilliant Love Day Party in Reception.  Before the party we looked at how love is celebrated on Valentines Day and as part of other celebrations around the world. The children came up with a list of ideas about what they wanted to do for their party; cake, chocolate and flowers were among their favourite ideas.

We were so pleased to welcome lots of grown ups into school today. We also played pass the parcel, ate cakes that we had decorated, finished the final parts of our special canvases and showed off our art gallery.

Reception and Class 1 thoroughly enjoyed their first session with JB Sports for balanceability this week. We look forward to see what they can achieve next week.

What a brilliant WOW event in Reception. The children loved showing off their model village and enjoyed creating pumpkin houses to take home.

So much excitement in Reception, launching their new topic "Are we there yet?" and creating our bus role play together.

We loved sharing our small world creations and reading our stories with Class 1 for our joint WOW event today. What a fantastic end to the term. Well done everyone!

Wonderful to see our lovely children back. Reception are already excited about our new topic 'What's at the top of the beanstalk?'

We had some very excited children and grown ups this morning!

Reception children explored the story "We're going on a bear hunt". The children have learnt lots of new vocabulary, shared their ideas, gone on a real bear hunt, retold the story and made their own bear hunt maps. We have also learnt to name the different parts of a bear and made shape bears in maths.
