Spring Term 2 2022 - Magnificent Monarchs

In the Magnificent Monarchs project, your child will learn about English and British monarchs from AD 871 to the present day and consider how the power of the monarchy has changed over time. They will study six significant sovereigns; Alfred the Great, William the Conqueror, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and the current monarch, Elizabeth II.

All of these wonderful learning experiences will help them to answer this projects Big Question: Which of the sovereigns you have studied is the most significant and why?

Week 6

In Art today, the children really enjoyed posing for their partners and creating some super portraits of each other holding objects that are important to them. The children thought carefully about their pose and were inspired by royal portraits they had studied earlier in the week. The children used light pencil stokes and remembered to spend time looking before drawing.

In history today the children spent time studying royal portraits. In their groups the children thought carefully to analyse aspects of the paintings, including facial expressions, poses, clothing, objects and backgrounds. The children then shared their ideas and opinions with the rest of the class.
