Our learning during Term 2

Science

During our Innovate lesson for our project, Human Senses, we explored why humans and animals have two eyes.

We carried out two simple tests. Test 1 involved covering one eye whilst trying to touch our partners’ pencil tip with our own. It was very difficult to judge where our partner’s pencil was. In test 2, we had to tell our partner when to drop a coin so it would fall in a pot whilst we were at table level with one eye covered. The child who was dropping the coin had to have their eyes closed. We found that we missed a lot of the time but some of us found it easier as we practised more. Some of us missed with one eye covered but when we swapped, it was easier.

We concluded that both activities were easier with both eyes and discussed the benefits of binocular vision. We’ve had so much fun during this science project!

RE

During Diwali, people from the Hindu faith decorate their houses to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of good luck and wealth.

We made banners and Lakshmi’s footprints to decorate the entrance of the classroom. We also lit our diva lamps and placed them in our rangoli patterns. It was a wonderful sight and we felt that Lakshmi would love to visit!

Science

We enjoyed looking at our similarities and differences. Working in pairs and using a mirror, we recorded our findings on a Venn diagram where the overlaying part represented the features that were similar.

Design and Technology

We had great fun during our family event. We used our design to build a prototype shelter out of all sorts of recyclable materials.

Our shelter was for Cool Bro and had to follow a certain set of design criteria. It needed to be sturdy so it didn't blow over, it needed to protect him from the sun and he needed to be able to get in and out of it easily.

After an hour of hard work from all of the children and the adults here are the fantastic results - what a very lucky boy Cool Bro is!

Science

During week one, we began our new topic within our science learning, Human Senses.

For our introductory lesson, we had some brilliant ideas about what we are. We then watched the We Are Humans presentation and added some new facts that we learnt.

We then completed our first engage lesson where we had to much fun drawing around each other.

Once we had the 'paper' versions of ourselves, we labelled basic parts of the body. Then we challenged ourselves as a class with some more difficult vocabulary including pelvis, abdomen and forearm.
