Our first Spring Term text is 'The Red Prince' by Charlie Roscoe. We are writing to entertain and have been considering first person perspectives and the use of 'show not tell' in our writing. Our grammar focus has been using adverbs to express time. Our writing outcome is writing the escape scene from the text from the perspective of The Red Prince, which will lead nicely into our diary entry writing. We then created book reviews of a book we have read in our writing to inform element. Our poetry this term looked at calligram poems, creating a calligram poem of an area of our choice, looking at key features and structure of poetry.
We started the second part of Spring Term by writing to entertain, focusing on the text Escape from Pompeii by Christina Balit.
In Geography, we have started our Rocks, Relics and Rumbles project by looking closely at layers of the earth. We have explored different types of rock, understanding how to categorise these into metamorphic, sedimentary or igneous rocks.
In Science, we have been learning about forces and contact points. We have looked particularly at push and pull forces and what contacts enable to force to occur.
In Art and Design, we have started our Ammonite project by exploring ammonites and focusing on Fibonacci patterns. We have applied our learning by creating our own ammonite sketches. We have continued to study ammonites and then created our own using the printing techniques.
