We had a special visitor come into school - Lenny the hamster.
Before he came we asked lots of questions that we’d like to know about a hamster. We then sorted the questions into questions that could be answered through research and those that could be answered through completing simple tests.
When Lenny came in, we asked his owner the research questions and learnt lots of information from her.
We then carried out simple tests to answer the question ‘Does a hamster have senses?’
We tested his sense of sight, seeing if he would recognise a dark place, we tested his sense of smell by placing vinegar near his nose to see if he would react and we tested his sense of taste - he really liked the rich tea biscuit.
We were able to conclude that Lenny does have and react to his senses.
As we have been covering mass in our maths lessons, one of our questions was how heavy Lenny was. We used the balance scales and measured his mass with cubes. We were very surprised that his mass was only 10 cubes!

This term we have been having great fun exploring animals. As our introductory lesson, we thought of our own ideas about what an animal is then reported back to create a class idea sheet. After watching an information video, we added the new learning onto the sheet but we had so much knowledge without the video 😃
We then started to look in more detail about the types of animals, categorising by the characteristics into the following groups; amphibians, invertebrates, mammals, fish, birds and reptiles.
After grouping the animals, we began looking at the characteristics in order to seek patterns between them. We explored different criteria in which to sort the animals onto Carroll diagrams. Some of us used criteria given and others decided to challenge themselves, using their own.
Religious Education
For our new Buddhist project this term, we all went on a very special journey for our memorable experience. Esala Perahera, also known as The Festival of the Tooth is a festival held in Kandy, Sri Lanka. We all boarded our flight on Sri Lankan Airlines - some having access to first class - and fastened our seatbelts and off we flew! The flight attendants provided very good service to some quite tricky customers!
