Another hands-on session, this time with a masking tape number line to help us with equivalent fractions.
Today, we learned about the different blood vessels: veins, arteries and capillaries. We talked about their different characteristics and made our own representations, with labels.
We were very fortunate to have Dan from the Stay Safe Partnership visit us today. He talked about staying safe online, in an informative but fun way and challenged some of our opinions about online ‘friends’. He encouraged the children to talk openly to their grown-ups about their activity online in order to keep themselves safe.
A hands-on Maths lesson, using bar models for addition and subtraction. You’re never too old to use manipulatives!
Today’s Science lesson involved using every day items to recreate the different components of our blood, including platelets and red and white blood cells. We talked about their roles in our blood.
Today we had a really hands-on Science lesson: we dissected real hearts! We used diagrams and videos to understand the various blood vessels and chambers and to look at how the heart pumps blood around the body. There were lots of oohs and ahhs in what was, hopefully, a truly memorable experience.
