Poetry

We have been reading poems with strong images, and discussing poets' use of personification, similes, metaphors and powerful language. We have used these examples to write our own poems based on our knowledge of the rainforest. We edited our work using feedback from our peers and teacher; some of our final poems are shown below.

Survival Session with Mr. Westaway

Mr. Westaway, our Chair of Governors, came into school on Friday 5th September to work with us on key survival techniques in the rainforest. We discussed the essential equipment that we would need in this situation and thought about how we would stay safe. Two children had the opportunity to dress in pilot's overalls and try out the rescue boat, which was really interesting!

We then planned our own shelters and worked as a team to build them using only the equipment we were provided with. This challenged our resourcefulness and relationships, but we were happy to rise to the challenge!

Take a look at the photographs below; we think Bear Grylls would be very impressed!

Spilsby Primary School shared learning

Spilsby Primary School shared learning 1
We have been sharing our learning with Spilsby Primary School. Their Y6 topic has been 'The Frozen Kingdom', which has strong learning links with our work on the Amazon. We shared fact files and videos with them, teaching each other interesting facts about animals which live in each of these locations. We then created a 'Who wants to be a millionaire' quiz to test each other's knowledge. The photograph above shows the exact moment we became millionaires - all by using only one lifeline!
