Term 2 - May the power be with you

Through popular demand, our new topic is 'May the power be with you.' This is a quote from Power Rangers Samurai.

The children are very excited about Power Rangers so all of our learning will be linked to the story and characters in some way.

Our journey starts in Japan...the home of the Samurai. Today we have learnt about Hatsumode; a Japanese festival to celebrate the New Year. The children have been making New Year's resolutions and following a specific ritual whilst wishing for them in our Shinto Shrine.

We have also learnt about Japanese writing and through research, found it is very different from the English language! We all wrote our name in Japanese and did a remarkable job!

LEARNING UPDATE: Although we had the backbone of this topic planned, as always, the children have taken it in the direction of their interests. When researching Japan the children have started discovering information about China. Over the next two weeks, we will start to learn about Chinese traditions. I wonder where we end up the week after. cheeky

Class 1 trying Chinese Food.

Willow pattern plates. We heard the story, we acted the story, we retold the story, we designed our plates, we painted our plates, the plates went in the kiln and they look fantastic! Detailed representations of the story Class 1. Well done.

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

In Class 1, the children assess their own work and also their friend's work. This helps spot common errors and room for improvement. The children are becoming very good at making this specific to their objective. Below are some pictures of the year 1 children giving advice to their partners.
