Spring Term 2 - Horrible Histories

This term we are going to be learning all about Horrible Histories! We have already been working hard to transform our classroom into an Historical learning environment, complete with our very own Viking long boat!

Keep looking at our regular website updates to see where our magical learning journey has taken us this term!  Here's a sneak peek at where our learning journey is going to take us throughout the project.

The children thought of lots of different questions they would like to answer throughout our Horrible Histories project.

Week 1

This week we have been learning all about Vicious Vikings! The children have loved learning about where the Vikings can from and why they wanted to come to England. We have spent time researching Viking longboats, shields and helmets.

The children spent time at the beginning of the week painting their very own Viking shields, which look fantastic. They thought carefully about the colours they used and the patterns they wanted to create.

In literacy, the children have used all of the Viking facts they have learnt this week to create some wonderful non-chronological reports all about Vikings. The children worked hard to make sure they included all of the key features of a non-chronological report, including some wonderfully drawn pictures.

Week 2

This week we have continued learning all about Vicious Vikings! The children have been working hard to write some brilliant recounts pretending to be a Viking travelling to England.

The children spent time creating texture and experimenting with colour using tissue paper to create some wonderful sea art and created silhouettes of Viking long boats, which look fantastic!

We have also spent time learning about Norway and comparing the climate and landscape of Norway to England.

Week 3

This week we have been learning all about Anglo Saxons. The children have spent time learning about the different tribes that came to England and how they later became known as Anglo Saxons. We have learnt about how they lived and their homes. The children also spent time learning about The Pilgrim Fathers and we compared similarities and differences between the Pilgrim Fathers and the Vikings.

We also spent time learning all about Viking gods. The children enjoyed learning about the different gods and their powers.
