Phonics is predominantly taught in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 where we have 4 lessons a week.
We follow Letters and Sounds and use Jolly Phonics actions to support sound recognition in phases 2 and 3. The children are given a rich and varied diet of games and activities to help them make their way through the phases.
Our groups are not set, the children progress when they are ready and have extra support when needed. ICT plays a vital part in the teaching of phonics in Gipsey Bridge. This adds another dimension to our lessons which help create confident and well equipped little readers and writers.
