Autumn Term 1 - When I Grow Up

Housing Association and Website Designer

Today we had another visitor. This time is was Mrs Whalley who works for the Housing Association and she is also a Website Designer.

It was really interesting hearing about what Mrs Whalley does during the day and how many different jobs she has to do. She has to answer the phones, organise workmen to go to the houses, dealing with complaints and doing everything that she can to help a customer.

On top of her work at he Housing Association, Mrs Whalley is also a Website Designer. During this job, different people contact her asking for her to make them, or their company, a website.

When I Grow Up

Today we worked in groups to think of our favourite part of this very busy and exciting topic.

Our WOW Event

Today we showed our WOW Assembly to our adults! We told them what we wanted to be when we are older, shared some of the things we have been doing this term and sand the song that we have been practising. Thank you to everyone that came to watch.

Have a look at the highlights below, including the videos and some of the feedback we received from the adults that were watching.

Estate Agent

This week we were visited by Sarah who is an Estate Agent. Sarah came in to tell us all about her job. She told us about how she has to show lots of people around different houses, write adverts for the houses, take pictures of the houses and help people to buy or rent a house. It can take a long time to buy a house, did you know that it takes 12 weeks on average to buy a house? Sarah also helped us take pictures of the school to go with our adverts and she gave us some inside tips to help us make our adverts amazing!

Estate Agents

This week we are looking at what Estate Agents are and what their job entails. We started to look at the persuasive way that they write the adverts for the houses. To do this we used the iPads to look at some adverts for houses that are currently on the market. We found out that they always use positive language, they try and appeal to what the viewer wants and they carefully choose their words to make the house sounds as good as possible.

We are really looking forward to hearing from an estate agent on Thursday.

Literacy

Today in Literacy we were focusing on using conjunctions in our work. We worked in groups to write a sentence and then picked a conjunction at random. We then had to use that conjunction to try and extend our sentences.

RAF

This week we had another visitor in Class 2. This time our visitor was Mr Westaway who used to work in the RAF. Mr Westaway was an Aircraft Engineer in the RAF for 23 years and during that time we worked on Harriers, Tornadoes, Typhoons and helicopters. He worked at lots of different RAF bases as well including, Northolt, Bruggen, Wittering, Cottesmore and Coningsby.

He told us loads of information about being in the RAF and answered all of our questions.

We really enjoyed listening to everything that Mr Westaway was telling us and some of us are even more excited to have the chance to go into the military when we are older.

PE

We completed our last HIIT workout this week! We have created a very long list of the different HIIT workout moves that we have done. Some include; rope climbs, squat jumps and walking press ups. The list is much longer, but we don't want to spoil any future surprises...hint...hint...at the WOW Assembly.

Maths

This week in maths we are looking at measurements. This will help us with the jobs next week.

We started by making sure we were using the rulers correctly and accurately by measuring lines of different lengths. We were measuring in Metres, centimetres and millimetres.

Once we had mastered using a ruler and metre stick accurately we started looking at how to find the perimeter of a shape. Did you know that the perimeter is the distance around the outside of a shape?

News Reporters

This week we are being news reports. Our week started off with a visit from a news reporter, from Lincs FM, called Kellie Pyart.

Kellie came in to talk to use about being a news reporter. She told us about how she became a news reporter, what her job entails, who she has interviewed and how she puts together a news report ready to read live on the radio. She also answered all of our questions and we had a lot!

After we had gathered all of the information, we planned and wrote our own newspaper report about the visit.

PE With Mr Curcio

We carried on looking at the key skills used in tag rugby this week. We started off by playing the toilet game to practice our passing and catching.

After the toilet game, we played a snake game working on our ball handling, passing, catching and our movement and spacial awareness.

Police Officers

This week we have been learning about Police Officers. We learnt about the qualities a Police Officer needs, some of their roles and how they use police dogs.

Our call up to being a Police Officer came sooner than we could have imagined! When we got to school on Tuesday morning the PE Shed had been roped off and nobody seemed to know why!

The Police were really busy so handed the case over to us to solve!

We had to look for clues and think of questions to ask the only witness... Mrs Czornookyj who had spoken to the attending Police Officers.

Through the combination of the clues we had found and the interview answers we discovered that the Extreme Weather had hit the PE shed making a hole in the roof and scattering the equipment all over Gipsey Bridge.

Luckily the PE Shed roof was repairable and all of the contents was recovered.

Art

During our Art lessons we are looking at Pablo Picasso. We have learnt about his background including where and when he was born, how old he was when he died, his different styles and why he wanted to become an artist.

This week we started to draw our own self portrait in the style of Picasso's blue period.

P.E.

During our Monday PE lessons we are looking at how to be a Personal Trainer.

This week we started looking at H.I.I.T workouts and completed one of Joe Wicks' workouts. We loved it and have started to add to our bank of H.I.I.T moves ready to make our own workouts!

Science

This week in Science we have been using magnets. We were using magnets to find out which objects were magnetic and which were not magnetic.

Before we used the magnets, we predicted whether the object would be magnetic or not.
